Emilia-Romagna’s 12 Truffle Cities are a network that aims to preserve and protect the values and culture of the territories and communities that are linked to truffles. This is an element of identity that must be safeguarded and passed on.
Founded in Alba in 1990, the National Association of Truffle Cities (ANCT) has successfully synthesised and harmonised three areas of expertise: truffle production, marketing, and tourism promotion. This has created synergy in the development of the territory and consolidated a positive relationship with consumers.
Among the 10 founding members of the National Association of Truffle Cities are two cities in Emilia-Romagna: Castel di Casio and Sant’Agata Feltria.
Thanks to this association, truffle hunting and harvesting in Italy was recognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2021. This ensures that the knowledge and traditions surrounding truffle harvesting, which are often passed down through generations in the form of complex oral traditions involving gestures and words, are not lost.
It is a tradition in which humans and dogs work together to confront nature, seeking to unravel its mysteries and grasp its most hidden and wild essence.
