In November, the days get shorter, fog starts to appear more often, and the first cold spells encourage us to stay indoors.
However, this is also the perfect time to take a walk in the hills and attend one of the many autumn food festivals dedicated to local products.
Below is a list, divided by product, of the festivals not to be missed in November in Emilia-Romagna.
Fossa Cheese Festivals

It seems that the origins of Formaggio di Fossa date back to the mid-1400s, when farmers in Romagna, to protect themselves from looting, began hiding their dairy supplies in pits dug into the sandstone rock.
Fossa, Truffle & Venus in Mondaino

The event offers visitors a series of delicious surprises to taste and buy directly from local producers.
The underground pits dug in the sandstone of the Mondaino Castle (Rimini hills) have always been used to preserve and season agricultural products.
Here you can discover the local treasure extracted from the subsoil, the “fossa”, obtained from the natural fermentation of summer Pecorino cheese in these special maturing pits.
The Amber of Talamello

In November, in Talamello (RN), a charming village in the heart of Montefeltro, the municipality and producers invite all food lovers to the Fiera del Formaggio stagionato in Fossa (Fossa Aged Cheese Fair), L’Ambra di Talamello.
In November, this delightful village is transformed into a veritable terrace of taste, with food stands lining the streets offering high-quality local products from all over Italy, paired with L’Ambra di Talamello.
Sogliano Dop Fossa Cheese Fair

The 50th Fossa di Sogliano DOP Cheese Fair in Sogliano al Rubicone is an event dedicated to traditional flavours and tastes.
It is the perfect opportunity to taste the famous local Fossa cheese and take part in numerous side events, including exhibitions, theatre performances, conferences and stands run by local farmers and growers.
There will also be recreational activities, children’s activities and musical performances.
Olive Oil Festivals

Emilia-Romagna has a centuries-old olive oil tradition, with quality products such as Brisighella POD Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Colline di Romagna PDO Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Olive and Autumn Produce Fair

In Coriano (RN), there is an exhibition market of agricultural, forestry and pastoral products with oil and wine tastings and stands offering typical local food. The event is rounded off with traditional crafts, exhibitions on Romagna’s rural culture, debates and conferences, music and entertainment.
Olive and Oil Festival

The Olive and Oil Festival in Brisighella (RA) was created to celebrate olive cultivation, which dates back to ancient times in this area, given that olives were already known, appreciated and valued in Roman times.
The stars of the show are the sought-after extra virgin olive oil, “Brisighello”, which has Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, and the refined “Nobil Drupa”, which can be purchased fresh from the mill during the event.
Truffle Festivals

White, black or prized, His Majesty the truffle can be smelled and tasted in Emilia-Romagna however you prefer! Did you know that there are 12 truffle towns in Emilia-Romagna?
Fragno Black Truffle Fair

Viano Truffle Fair

Tartufesta of Sasso Marconi

The unmistakable scent of truffles returns to the Bolognese Apennines in Sasso Marconi. The Tartufesta is the most eagerly awaited and popular festival in the Reno valley, dedicated to the king of the forest and the table.

Tartófla of Savigno

In Savigno – a hamlet in the municipality of Valsamoggia– on weekends in October and November, the historic shops of the village and local farms showcase their products to attract foodies from all over Italy.
Now in its 42nd edition, the International White Truffle Festival offers high-quality cuisine that showcases the king of the table.
Autumn Truffle Festival

The Tuber magnatum pico, better known as the white truffle, can be found in the Panfilia Woods.

Bidente White Truffle Festival

Every year in November, the medieval village of Cusercoli (Civitella di Romagna), in the Forlì Apennines, comes alive with many stalls dedicated to truffles and other typical agricultural products. The highlight of the Sagra del Tartufo Bianco del Bidente (Bidente White Truffle Festival) is the award ceremony for the truffle hunter who finds the largest truffle.

In November, the village of Brisighella, in the province of Ravenna, dresses up for the Sua Maestà il Tartufo festival.
The most sought-after product of the Faenza hills is paired with typical local dishes, prepared by skilled chefs in the village’s restaurants. The “autumn white”, which has a particularly intense aroma, and the “black” truffle are on sale.
