This is the glaring case with this two-day motorcycle itinerary crossing the entire natural area of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/nature-outdoor\/natural-parks\/po-delta-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Po Delta Park<\/a><\/strong>, between the provinces of Ferrara and Ravenna.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a route made of straight roads that seem to never end, suitable for those who want to relax surrounded by the pleasantness of nature.<\/p>\n<p>We will start from Cervia Salt Pan along the state street SS16 Adriatica. First stage is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/ravenna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ravenna<\/a><\/strong>, the capital city of mosaics, then <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/ferrara\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrara<\/a><\/strong> passing through its hinterland.<\/p>\n<p>Its old town is really worth a visit, then with a thrust of the back we will head to the heart of <strong>Po Delta Park<\/strong> a few km away from the Adriatic Sea, and then southern towards <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferraraterraeacqua.it\/en\/comacchio\/discover-the-area\/nature-and-environment\/parks-and-natural-reserves\/the-valli-di-comacchio-po-delta-park?set_language=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comacchio Valleys<\/a><\/strong> and finally back to Ravenna.<\/p>\n<p>A round itinerary in flat areas, not particularly demanding, but able to balance out the lack of adrenaline with the stunning beauty of the endless streams of water, rushes, protected areas and rare species of birds, art and charm of an heritage unique to the world. So let&#8217;s rocket&#8230; but respecting the speed limits!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration<\/strong>: 2\/4 days including stops in the different cities<br \/>\n<strong>Length<\/strong>: 260 km<br \/>\n<strong>When<\/strong>: spring and early autumn. In the summer the weather is hotter, but by bike you should be fine<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"title-evidenza\">DAY 1<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s leave the coast of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/cervia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cervia<\/a> <\/strong>behind us and head for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismo.comunecervia.it\/en\/discover-the-area\/nature-and-environment\/parks-natural-reserves\/Cervia-salt-pan?set_language=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salt Pan<\/a><\/strong>, which are considered the South Gate of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/en\/po-delta-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Po Delta Park<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After a few km along the Via Salara Statale here they are: expanses of water rich in salt and only a few cm deep, that at sunrise shine and reveal an <strong>amazing variety of flora and fauna<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t prevent myself from stopping and taking some <strong>photographs of the pink flamingos<\/strong>, inhabitants of these areas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82064\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82064\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-82064\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/parco-delta-del-po-ph-francesco-de-marco-shutterstock_1746497051-1.jpg\" alt=\"Parco del Delta del Po (FE)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/parco-delta-del-po-ph-francesco-de-marco-shutterstock_1746497051-1.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/parco-delta-del-po-ph-francesco-de-marco-shutterstock_1746497051-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/parco-delta-del-po-ph-francesco-de-marco-shutterstock_1746497051-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/parco-delta-del-po-ph-francesco-de-marco-shutterstock_1746497051-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82064\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Po Delta Park (FE) | Credit: Francesco de Marco, via Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I&#8217;m pretty satisfied of my first sighting, so I should take advantage of this moment of grace and continue along the SP 254 until I reach <strong>Castiglione di Ravenna<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There, I take the SP51 to the point where it crosses the SS16 Adriatica, direction: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/ravenna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ravenna<\/a><\/strong>. It&#8217;s a smooth ride and the gentle turns of the street allow for some steps on the gas.<\/p>\n<p>Nature here is stunning, cultivated fields alternate with green pine forests, but also with pubs and restaurants, where people can stop and have a good piadina.<\/p>\n<p>If you reach Ravenna from the south, the first thing you see is the high round bell tower of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismo.ra.it\/en\/culture-and-history\/religious-buildings\/basilica-santapollinare-classe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Basilica Sant&#8217;Apollinare in Classe<\/a><\/strong>, one of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismo.ra.it\/en\/follow-your-way\/unesco-monuments-ravenna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of the eight Unesco monuments of the city<\/a><\/strong>. A must-do is a selfie in a historical place, so why not here? It&#8217;s a way to share my experience with other riders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ravenna is well-known for its Early-Christian monuments<\/strong> and above all for the mosaic that they preserve. On the way to Ferrara, you should avoid busy roads and prefer isolated country roads: <strong>Alfonsine<\/strong>, <strong>Anita<\/strong>, <strong>Longastrino<\/strong>, and <strong>Menata<\/strong> are but a few villages on the border between the two provinces (Ravenna and Ferrara), that you will pass by on your quest for silence along the banks of former <strong>Po di Primaro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When you reach <strong>Bando<\/strong>, take the SP48 towards <a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/argenta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Argenta<\/strong><\/a> to visit the suggestive tiny church <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferraraterraeacqua.it\/en\/argenta\/discover-the-area\/art-and-culture\/chirches-baptisteries\/pieve-di-san-giorgio?set_language=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pieve San Giorgio<\/a><\/strong>, the most ancient in the territory of Ferrara (VI Century AD) and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bonificarenana.it\/servizi\/Menu\/dinamica.aspx?idSezione=19034&amp;idArea=16540&amp;idCat=19196&amp;ID=20888&amp;TipoElemento=categoria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saiarino Water Works<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_50833\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50833\" style=\"width: 1500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-50833\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pievesangiorgio-featured.jpg\" alt=\"Argenta (Ferrara) - Pieve di San Giorgio\" width=\"1500\" height=\"645\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pievesangiorgio-featured.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pievesangiorgio-featured-300x129.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pievesangiorgio-featured-1024x440.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pievesangiorgio-featured-768x330.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-50833\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Argenta (Ferrara), Pieve di San Giorgio<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another town that you will cross is <strong>Portomaggiore<\/strong>: first, you reach <strong>Gambalunga<\/strong> (worth a mention are its <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ferraraterraeacqua.it\/en\/portomaggiore\/discover-the-area\/art-and-culture\/villas-historical-residences-and-theatres\/delizia-estense-del-verginese?set_language=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Castle of Verginese<\/a><\/strong>, a former summer residence of the Estensi family); then <strong>Voghiera<\/strong> and finally <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/en\/ferrara-3-minutes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrara<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This is a visit you just can&#8217;t slip. 80 km away from Ravenna, Ferrara was an important medieval fortress and <strong>one of the most significant courts during the Renaissance<\/strong>. Park the bike in the parking space at Porta Reno and go for a walk in the city centre, it&#8217;s a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferraradeltapo-unesco.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Heritage Site<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the list of not-to-miss, not only monuments will surprise you, but also the cappellacci: traditional pasta filled with pumpkin and Parmigiano. Riding my faithful bike I take via Pomposa first, then SP15 for 21km to <strong>Finale di Reno<\/strong>. From Finale, let&#8217;s head south to <strong>Migliarino<\/strong> and then follow river <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Po_di_Volano\">Po di Volano<\/a> to Massa Fiscaglia. On the way to Codigoro, first you will admire the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ferraraterraeacqua.it\/en\/fiscaglia\/discover-the-area\/art-and-culture\/castles-towers-bell-towers\/torre-tieni?set_language=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tower of Tieni<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here, take the SS495 and enjoy its surreal agricultural atmosphere. Once you reach <strong>Ariano Ferrarese<\/strong> head for <a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/mesola\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Mesola<\/strong><\/a>, now protected area. Even though the itinerary is grudging of pauses, I take my time for a coffee and a spirit in its choreographic yard, and then I&#8217;m ready for my way back to Ravenna.<\/p>\n<p>The Via Romea (SS309) ventures into the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferraraterraeacqua.it\/en\/mesola\/discover-the-area\/art-and-culture\/museums-and-galleries\/the-wood-and-deer-museum-of-mesola?set_language=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mesola Woods and Deer Ecomuseum<\/a><\/strong>, the widest in the province of Ferrara. My moment of grace strikes back and I can even admire a deer.<\/p>\n<p>While my eyes are still mesmerising, I head for <a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/goro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Goro<\/strong><\/a>, where with a small fee I can access to the mouth of river Po through a bridge and admire the river flowing into the Adriatic.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_54484\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-54484\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-54484\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7063-800x502-1.jpg\" alt=\"Goro (Ferrara) | Ponte di Barche\" width=\"800\" height=\"502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7063-800x502-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7063-800x502-1-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/7063-800x502-1-768x482.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-54484\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Goro (Ferrara), Boat Bridge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After having lunch at a fish restaurant in Goro, I follow the directions for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/en\/abbey-pomposa-in-emilia-romagna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abbey of Pomposa<\/a><\/strong>. After 30 minutes I&#8217;m riding again along the ancient Via Romea, and I take the SP54 on the left towards <a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/lido-di-volano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Lido di Volano<\/strong><\/a>. The road is straight so I can hit the gas and reach quickly <strong>Bertuzzi Valley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The ride to <a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/porto-garibaldi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Porto Garibaldi<\/strong><\/a> is a smooth one. One I reach the village on the coast, I decide to run along the harbour; even though the scent from the restaurants is appealing, I don&#8217;t have time for that and I force myself to leave this place for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emiliaromagnaturismo.it\/en\/towns\/comacchio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comacchio<\/a><\/strong>, famous for its ship canals &#8211; partly navigable &#8211; that cross the city centre.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82061\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82061\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-82061\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelemiliaromagna.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/comacchio-fe-ph-foo-tto-via-shutterstock_1875823807-1.jpg\" alt=\"Comacchio (FE).
